Hunger Busters | July 26, 2011
On this early Tuesday morning, I woke up nice and early to head to Dallas and volunteer my time with Hunger Busters. I first heard about Hunger Busters through my boyfriend’s friend who volunteers his time there daily. Jonathan and I both decided it would be great to visit his friend and give back to the community at the same time! Once we got the A-Okay from Ben Galichia, we were set to volunteer.
In 2000, Philip Romano and his wife, Lillie created Hunger Busters as a charitable organization to serve hungry people in Dallas. Hunger Busters delivers sustenance to the people who need it, whether they are on the streets of Dallas or in the classroom. Since then, Hunger Busters has expanded in size and scope offering an often missed third meal of the day to underprivileged children.
This morning and early afternoon, I spent my time preparing box lunches consisting of a sandwich, an apple, a cookie, and a package of pudding. It was great knowing that my work was directly going to those who needed it more than anything. Also, I love seeing teamwork at its best. Everyone was so effective and efficient!
