American Hero Day at Camp Mabry in Austin | April 16, 2011
I have always been a strong supporter of our troops and all those dedicated to protecting our great country. I believe that those who make the commitment and sacrifice to serve have not only a brave and courageous heart, but also a loving and kind soul.
Camp Mabry is located approximately 3 miles from UT and when I found out about their American Hero Day, a day where the Austin community can learn about military life and Austin’s local heroes, I had to go. And to my surprise, Camp Mabry even had the traveling Vietnam War Wall on display! As a Vietnamese-American, I have always been extremely grateful and appreciative to the 58,000 American soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice to protect South Vietnam and its ideology of Freedom and Democracy. I felt very touched as I looked at all the names on the wall and felt so thankful that because of these names on the wall, I have the opportunity to live in America today, where I can chase after my dreams and have the chance to impact the lives of others for the better. There were tons of military aircrafts on display and it was definitely an eye-opening experience and a chance to see exactly how big they truly are! There were even several war memorials on display and I took the opportunity to look at pictures and get another look at different wars.
I hope you enjoy the photos I took below :)
