2 Trung Sisters Commemoration Ceremony | April 3, 2011

Vietnam before 1975 was a country of rich culture, heritage, and customs. The story of the two Trưng Sisters who lived during the First Century and successfully rebelled against Chinese Han-Dynasty rule for 3 years is a story told to many children, especially young girls to showcase the true strength and courage Vietnamese women possess. The two Trưng Ladies are regarded as national heroines of Vietnam. When no one else stood up for Vietnam, the two Trưng Ladies did. They defeated 65 fortresses and brought Vietnamese people together with a common cause: to stand up against Chinese domination and protect Vietnam. This of course, contrasts with Vietnam today since the Communist government does not protect Vietnam’s land and has traded away Ai Nam Quan Mountains and many other parts of Vietnam.

I had the privilege of making a speech about the two Trưng Ladies or in Vietnamese, they are called Hai Bà Trưng at the Commemoration Ceremony at the Vietnamese American Community Center of Greater Dallas. My speech was in Vietnamese and I felt honored to have the opportunity to once again speak in Vietnamese to an audience. The ceremony was full of cultural customs, such as paying respects to our ancestors, and saluting the Vietnamese and American flags.

My full speech is published on Viet Bao Online as well as many Vietnamese papers in Texas and Arizona. Click the image below to read my speech:
