Tet Trung Thu, Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival | September 17, 2010

Last Friday, the Vietnamese American Community hosted the Vietnamese Mid-Autumn Festival for the first time in 4 years. Of course, no Mid-Autumn Festival is complete without children and paper lanterns. Tet Trung Thu is a holiday for parents to give their children time off and praise them for all their hard work around the house, doing well in school, and being good children.

This year, my entertainment group, Saturday Ocean came out to perform. We sang both national anthems as well as performed a creative dance with paper lanterns. I was able to talk to the audience about my title as well as my community service activities for the year. Mr. Luong of The Gioi Moi Magazine even had the issue with my photo on the cover and was handing them out for everyone to have. Numerous people asked me to autograph them, which was awesome!

Seeing all of the children participate in various contests such as ao dai, singing, or paper lanterns was a great experience. The warm and supportive atmosphere made everyone feel at ease.

I hope this year signifies the return of Tet Trung Thu every year!

With my incredible Mother! Don’t we look alike? :)

With the beautiful, Jessica Knabel :)

These two precious children brought flowers to give to me!
